Tales of the Talking Tiger

We don’t all drive a Rolls Royce

It’s not often that I walk out of church on a Sunday night and see a Rolls Royce parked on the street, but this is what happened last night. This is symbolic of some of the wealth in the area - not surprising really given the number of properties with harbour views and the proximity to the city. I don’t think the owner was at church - most likely they were at the Thai restaurant next door!

This was starkly contrasted with a visitor we had during the service last night. As Mark had just commenced the Bible talk and was praying, a man started shouting and walking down the aisle, telling him that he shouldn’t lie to people, and that he (as in the visitor, not Mark) followed Osama bin Laden.

I’ve chatted with this visitor outside church a couple of times and without going into any detail, his life is in a mess. He, along with 899 other people, live in the largest government housing estate in NSW - 300 metres down the road.

The contrast of these two events - our mid-service visitor and seeing the Rolls outside church is still grating me. It was a glimpse of both ends of the social spectrum of the community.
