On Tuesday night I went with my Connect group to the Passion Conference which is part of the Passion World Tour. It was an amazing night. Here are five things that made it such a special event.
- It was all about Jesus. The songs, the talk, the prayers were all about how great Jesus is and all he has done for us. What an amazing truth that “God made him who had no sin [Jesus] to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
- It took my eyes off the here and now, and to the eternal. The here and now often isn’t that great. It’s filled with disappointments, pain, struggles, uncertainties and frustrations. But Jesus is alive! He has conquered the grave! My sin won’t be counted against me! What a great reminder of the eternal perspective.
- Everything was done excellently. I’ve been to a lot of Christian events and none have been done with the same quality. Being Christian means we trust in God’s grace to work in our weakness, but also means that we do things to the best of our ability, to honour the one who died for us. What a difference it makes when things are done well. What a great way of honouring God by using our gifts to the best of our ability.
- I was inspired to spread the fame of Jesus on the earth. As Isaiah 26:8 says: “Yes Lord, walking in the way of Your truth we wait eagerly for You, for Your name and renown are the desire of our souls.” It is easy to seek our own fame, or boast in the fame of others (or the ‘famous’ people that we know), yet no one is as worthy of our boasting than the Creator of all things who humbled himself to death on a cross for our sake.
- It was a night of Christian unity. There were Christians from many denominations – Baptist, Anglican, Presbyterian, Church of Christ, Assemblies of God. Yet we all gathered together in the name of Jesus to praise and worship Him. It was a tiny glimpse of what heaven will be like…
Praise God for the people who run Passion and may the fire keep burning.
If you went, I’d love to hear what the highlight of the night was for you.
