Today is Blog Action Day for poverty. Over 8,000 blogs are participating by joining the discussion about global poverty.
I’ve got a challenge for you. For every unique comment on this post I will donate $5 to the charity Compassion (up to AU$300). ‘Unique’ means you can’t comment more than once (well you can, but I won’t donate on your behalf more than once!).
I’ve chosen Compassion because I’ve donated to them before and I respect them, and because their focus is on children. Children are least able to rescue themselves from poverty.
According to the Global Issues website:
- There are 2.2 billion children in the world.
- 1 billion (every second child) lives in poverty.
For the 1.9 billion children in the developing world there are:
- 640 million without adequate shelter (1 in 3)
- 400 million with no access to safe water (1 in 5)
- 270 million with no access to health services (1 in 7)
We can do something about this.
So go on, tell your friends. The challenge has been issued. Comment and save the children.
You might also like to make a donation of your own, or read more about the work of Compassion.

Hey Tiger
Good on you for putting this issue on your blog. Can’t think of a better way to spend $5.
Well worth the use of these pixels.
I believe this will get you to $20!
