In the Sydney Morning Herald there’s a section where people can ask questions, and other readers write in with the answers, the best of which appear in a subsequent edition of the paper.

In yesterday’s SMH someone asked a question along the lines of:

“what would the world be like if everyone always told the truth?

It’s a hard question to answer because it seems to far from our experience! The Jim Carey movie Liar Liar provides one picture of what this world might look like…

Any other suggestions?

    Hi Steve,

Is it still the truth if it isn’t the whole truth? In Liar Liar, Jim Carey’s character starts telling “the truth” in certain situations where he could just keep his mouth shut. But if he said nothing would that then be a type of deception?

But to answer your question – if people always told the truth, surely they would all be talking about the Gospel all the time?!?!

Jesus said “I am … the truth” (John 14:6); not just “I know the truth” but he is the embodiment of truth. So if we were to always tell the truth then we would always tell people about Jesus.

    God bless,

    Michael
