Yesterday Church by the Bridge held its inaugural Winter Appeal. We invited people from the community to donate clothing, blankets and non-perishable food to be distributed to people in need. We had no idea how it would go, and if anyone in the community would participate. For two weeks we distributed a postcard in Kirribilli letterboxes, encouraging people to drop off their donations, and we also offered to pick them up on the day.
Yesterday was very exciting. Teams hit the streets to knock on doors and offer to pick up clothing, blankets and food. And lots of people took us up on the offer. Lots of people also came down to the church to drop off garbage bags of clothing. By 6pm last night we had over 100 bags, and still more are being dropped off today!
It’s great to unite the community around a good cause. Great to meet people in the community. Very encouraging to see the eagerness of the community to get involved.
