This morning on the way to work I was listening to Kyle and Jackie-O as they discussed euthanasia (great breakfast radio conversation!) A man rang in with a story of a family friend who had died of motor neurone disease. His argument for euthanasia is that people who are in a lot of pain should be allowed to escape their pain, that enough is enough – just let them be put out of their misery.
Euthanasia is a sensitive topic, and I’m not going to delve deeply into it. The question that came to my mind as I considered it this morning, is this:
Whilst you might be in a lot of pain now, terrible pain, what certainty do you have that when you die, your situation will improve, or your pain will be any less? What hope do you have that your pain will be alleviated when you die?
