Can I take the knife home?

On Thursday night before I returned to the hotel to ponder the purpose of all-night office lighting, I had a marvellous meal with colleagues at the I’m Angus Steakhouse in Darling Harbour, Sydney. It is hard to imagine a tastier meal than a perfect cut of steak, cooked medium rare and served with a pile of creamy mashed potatoes.

A highlight of the meal was the steak knifes – sure this sounds strange, but I like to compare this with a drive in a nice car (or at least what I imagine a drive in a nice car to be like!) The destination is important, but comfortable seating and a smooth ride can make all the difference. Now back to the steak knifes.

When the waiter came to ask if we would like dessert and our answer was in the negative, he asked us if we would like anything else. I asked if we could take home the steak knifes…and he said yes!

We coudn’t actually take home the knifes that we had used that night, but we could buy a set of four knifes and a chopping board for the one low price of $38. I don’t actually know if that’s a good price for a set of steak knifes, but my friends Nate and Tara now have a very belated engagement present, and I’ve created for myself a guaranteed invitation to steak nights at their place in future!

Dude that’s pretty cool, and now they have gotten a bit more advertising. I should tell some of my student friends who need knives to go there!

I’m not sure if it’s the cheapest place to buy a knife, but they are certainly big steak knives!

I’ve been to the Angus Steakhouse before when I used to live in Sydney and it is great! Good choice to buy their steak knifes as well :)

I love that episode of West wing where Charlie is sent out to buy carving knives for the President and we get a glimpse at just how up tight some people can get about their cutting implements. Perhaps its just because I’ve never used a really good carving knife that I don’t understand the nuances of balance and grip, alloys and Carbon fibre.
