You’ve just gotta love this advertisement for Tag Heuer watches. I saw this ad in a magazine and found it again on the Tag Heuer web-site. It’s hard to see, but you might be able to just make out the tag line (get it?!) in the top-right of the advertisement:
It reads: Tag Heuer – What are you made of? Considering the average price of a Tag Heuer watch is around $4,000, the obvious answer is ‘money’. I’m not quite sure that’s what the advertising agency had in mind though…This post is tagged

I assume it has something to do with being made of the “right stuff”. There’s another add with the same tag line featuring
Brad Pitt.
It’s probably safe to say that Mr Racing-man in the picture you posted is quite good at what he does, and we all know Brad is! They are made of the right stuff, they excel at what they do. So the connection there would be that this stupidly expensive watch is the best of it’s class (made of the right stuff)…
Perhaps you’re right Ceny, in fact, I’d hope to think you are!
I’m not sure about your assertion regarding Brad Pitt though!
I guess the issue I have with this advertisement is its ambiguity – it was very easy for me to misinterpret the meaning, and if it weren’t for you, I would have no reason to think otherwise.
Advertising should always be clear and leave no room for misinterpretation…
